Let’s Talk: Procrastination or Planning?

Lets Talk Lets Talk: Procrastination or Planning?

Originally hosted by Melissa from i swim for oceans, Smash & Kt took her original inspiration, and made it their own, expanding it to more than just books. Let’s get personal (but respectfully so) and learn more about one another! Each week, a different question will be posted along with a place to link up your posts and visit other people’s responses. This meme is definitely meant to bring out conversation and meet new people. So, Let’s Talk!

Today’s Question:

Procrastination: does it rule your life? Or are you more of the prepared/scheduled type?

Ohhh lawdie. Procrastination is definitely not for me. I learned a lot about personality types when I was working in a career firm. We would have clients take the MBTI and I learned that “pressure prompted” is, indeed, a personality trait. One that I scored far away from. :Þ I am most definitely a planned and prepared person. I want to get shit done and get it done now. If things are thrown at me last-minute, I have a mini-panic attack. BUT, over the years working for pressure prompted bosses (not good for the blood pressure, peeps), I’ve realized that I can get the work done regardless. It is just very uncomfortable to me. I also feel like I’m prone to make more mistakes if it’s last-minute. I am detail-oriented, but not when my heart is working overtime and my internal voice is saying EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

I have reviews scheduled through April. It was a big reason I took January off. Not only am I reading slower these days, but I also have less time to blog. I’d rather take a hiatus than have a wacky schedule. At this point, however, I only have 2 reviews a week plus Let’s Talk on the books. I’m not feeling inspired by any memes and I’m not feeling inspired to write discussion posts (which I really want to do). I have begun to work with Isa on a new feature, but that could take a while, especially since I don’t have tons of time to devote to brainstorming…

LINK UP THOSE JUICY THOUGHTS!

      I am 1/2 and 1/2:

At work: I am scheduled! I like things to be early and turned in. I don’t like last minute things that could have been prevented with a little planning.

At home: I am a procrastinator. I hate yard work–I put it off and yes it gets worse. I hate grocery shopping–I put it off and then always end up with food I wouldn’t have come home with if I wasn’t trying to stock pile forever LOL

On my blog: 1/2 and 1/2–I schedule reviews as I write them but sometimes I let them stockpile *sigh*.

    2. I can tell you’re a planner by how well-done and timely your blog posts are! I think 2 reviews and one meme per week is fantastic for a married working woman like yourself. Gotta keep balance in life.

I’m like Felicia–I’m a planner but often take on too much, leaving me putting off some distasteful activities like writing a presentation. I have one today and my co-presenter and I just met this morning to finalize it!

      • I’m glad you think that is a good schedule! I want to add in some extras here and there, like discussion posts, and world-building stuff.

I would be freaking out if I were in your shoes today! I am a horrible presenter.

    3. Karen says:

Pressure makes me crack lol In my non blog life I tend to keep up on everything so procrastination isn’t an issue – ok maybe with cleaning….

      • Todd is pressure prompted. He can knock something out the night before and be completely confident and it will be good work. I had a friend in grad school he wrote papers the night before and got stellar grades. She did her best thinking with pressure. I could not be more different. She used to laugh at me because I’d start a paper a month before it was due. LOL.

    4. Ruby says:

Well, I wish were a better planner. I’m working on it–in my personal, professional and blogging lives. I’ll get there. Hopefully. HOPEFULLY.

    5. I’m not really a planner – I’m definitely more of a procrastinator and I work well under pressure. But for blogging, I prefer to be scheduled because I don’t like the feeling of always doing things last minute. I HATE stress, and I’m the most laidback person in the World, and I’m learning that a little pre-planning helps keep me that way – which is the opposite of what I thought it would be.

    7. I am a scheduler..I cannot even help it. is hardcore wired into me…has been since the day I was born. I envy people who can go with the flow.

    8. Stephanie says:

I am a huge lover of lists! Love them, love them. I love crossing things off them. I am hoping to be a little better organized in an overall manor. It’s getting a little better each day. It takes some practice and dedication to avoid being a procrastinator. ;)

    9. I could tell the new job & working out (all good things) were stressing you out, because you didn’t have the time to be the online Smash we all love. We are here & not going anywhere. We’ll take you when we get you :) sounds like you are getting your schedule back to Smash-Zen-ness.

    10. I’m very detail oriented when it comes to my job and projects I’m involved in. I’m with you – get it off my plate so I don’t have to think about it anymore. However, when it comes to my blog I’m much more laid back. One reason is because I’m just a slow reader and I don’t have a ton of reviews in my back pocket. I like the idea of taking off a month just to read.
