Lets Talk Lets Talk: Sneaky Books

Originally hosted by Melissa from i swim for oceans, Smash & Kt took her original inspiration, and made it their own, expanding it to more than just books. Let’s get personal (but respectfully so) and learn more about one another! Each week, a different question will be posted along with a place to link up your posts and visit other people’s responses. This meme is definitely meant to bring out conversation and meet new people. So, Let’s Talk!

Today’s Question:

Do you hide your book purchases from your significant other/parents/children/pet/old lady down the street? Share some good smuggling stories!
Um. Ummmm. *shifty eyes* Maybe a time or 2? I sneak them in all the time. Dr. Smash has honestly stopped asking about the books. I think he tries to not pay attention to them as much as possible. I do remember going to Decatur Book Festival in August and spending a pretty penny on the books because I wanted to get them all signed. I came home with far more than I left the house. I had to bring them in little by little over the next few days…*whistles* I don’t do that anymore, though. I buy a few here and there if they are in a serious I’m reading or for book club, but for the most part, I have to give that up for a while. I have plenty of books to keep my big ass content for a few looooong years. icon smile Lets Talk: Sneaky Books

    1. Nope. No hiding books from the hubby. He follows me on Twitter & FB and he sees all my B&N charges so it is kinda impossible. Lol He has long given up trying to limit my buying. As long as I wait till payday he is a happy hubby.

    2. Nope! We kind of make it a point to not hide things from each other, no matter what it is or how silly it seems. The honeyman is pretty great though, so he never gives me crap about buying books. In fact, he got me a revolving bookshelf for Christmas! Never thought he’d actually willingly add to my space for books, lol.

      • I just left this comment on your blog but it got ate, as usual. Ugh. “Now that you’ve made the rest of us feel like big assholes…LOL. Just kidding, of course. I don’t really hide them from T, but I don’t come home and announce what I’ve bought. I just put them on the shelf. And I always open packages in front of him. These days, he doesn’t know if I bought them, won them, was gifted them, traded them, etc. I think he is done caring. heh”

I don’t know why my blog does that to you sometimes! Every now and then I find a comment from you in my spam and I always unspam and approve it.

LOL I wasn’t trying to shame anyone! It’s nice that your hubby doesn’t give you any grief about books :) And just kind of not notices. Treland probably wouldn’t notice either, but like I said, I get so excited!

    3. Bahahahaha! I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I keep hiding my books from my parents because whenever one of them sees me buying a new one, they go “you bought ANOTHER book? But you’ve so many you haven’t read yet!” and it became a bit annoying. So now I usually just smuggle them in. :D

    4. Glad to hear there are some BOLD book buyers in the comments.

I’m in the same boat with you. I don’t think I hide them, necessarily because of the hubs. I think it is more out of my own guilt that I should be saving more.

    5. Felicia says:

Nope! Then again I don’t have anyone to hide it from but I pretty much put it all out there. :)

    6. This post is hilarious. I just talked to a blogger who’s hubs has cut her off from book purchases for a while. :-D

I’ve really started using the library more, which helps a lot.

    7. Whoops–meant to say “whose hubs”. Can you tell I’m in editing mode?

    8. Hahahaha I love this subject because I sneak stuff in ALL THE TIME. I even get my books delivered to work and leave early so I can get home and hide them before my bf gets home.

It was worse when I lived in a teeny apartment and the books were threatening to smother us in our sleep, but old habits die hard.

There’s also a reason I have my own credit card, mwhahahaha!

    9. Lucky me — I’m a singleton so I don’t have to hide anything! Except from myself, of course. It’s rather surprising when I pre-order something and forget about it until it shows up on my doorstep.

    10. Lol – I love this topic. I stopped reading and buying physical books a couple years ago… I still do occasionally, but rarely. But when I did, my son would always groan and say “more books?” I didn’t try to hide them though. Now that I’m pretty much only digital books, I think I subconsciously try to hide the number of books I download from myself. It’s a sickness. :D

    11. Karen says:

I’m late joining in but got a post up today! Nope – I don’t hide my book buying. He just said when I was typing this post…If your happy, then my life is easier lol

    12. Allison says:

Honestly.. my husband doesn’t pay any attention at all. It helps that I read most of my books on my Nexus so he really can’t tell which book is which.

But, when I was younger I used to hide the books I bought if I felt that my parents may disapprove of what I was reading, hehe.

    13. I haven’t been buying a lot of books, but I totally do this when I do! Sometimes hubs’ll notice a new book, but that’s rare. :)

    14. That’s pretty funny and a good idea too. I don’t hide my book purchases from my husband. I walk in with my head hung low and tell him in a chagrined voice that I was bad. He never gives me crap and it’s my money I spend on books anyway. : )
