Happy Halloween! Do you like to read scary books? Why or why not? If so, what is the scariest book you ever read and why does it deserve that honor?

You know, I DO love to be scared. HUGE fan of scary movies and haunted houses. I love the adrenaline rush of it all. I like horror fiction but find that I don’t read it too often. I think I prefer it in movie form. I find I like the more psychologically terrorizing book than say, a slasher murder mystery or something. I LOVE gore but it doesn’t necessarily scare me. Psychological thrillers or demonic possessions books and movies are my favorites, and they are the ones to freak me out the most. Books like Bedbugs and The Marbury Lens rock in the psychological thriller department. Then you have the subtle, malevolent evil, like The Diviners, that creeps up your spine and whispers sweet terror in your ears.
Sadly, I don’t think I have a favorite. It would probably take the scariest book I’ve ever read, but that book is going nowhere near my favorites. LOL. Fuck you, Pennywise!

Bonus question! Just for fun – have you ever dressed as a literary character for Halloween? Brave enough to show a photo if you have one?

I left out the bonus question and it’s my own meme lol DOH. Just added it.
I feel tense reading psychological thrillers but not scared. I think I read IT years ago. All of Stephen King’s books have a good creep factor because you never know who you can trust & it usually takes place in a small town against the ultimate evil.
I like the creep factor of the psychological stuff. gives me chills and makes me nervous. Lol
I didn’t used to like scary books at all! Now though, I really do enjoy them and have to say the scarier the better. My scary though is more things that “could” happen (aka serial killers, plagues, ect) as opposed to “monsters”.
Yea, monsters aren’t a huge thing for me. The main thing that scares the crap out of me is demon possessions!
I love your Alice costume. You scare me. HAHAHAHA!
Watch out….I’ll getcha!
That picture is bad ass! <3
Thanks. Fun times, indeed.
oh great costume and I love scary books too. King is the master
King is the master, though surprisingly, I haven’t read a lot of his stuff! Only the classics.
My cousin plays that game
That game is old school! So cool.
Love your answer and you made me giggle…you are very brave to backtalk Pennywise. The book It is a pretty scary one, which I loved. I still have so many scary books to get to.
I can’t stand that clown! He ruined my childhood. #kinda #notreally
OMG I love that costume!! That was one of my favorite PC games. I got Alice the Madness Returns, but it won’t play on my PC even though it exceeds the minimun requirements.
Thank you!! Is the newer game made for newer PCs? I thought they were fairly older. That sucks it won’t work even though you meet requirements. BOOOOO! *stabs Alice*
Yeah, its a newer one. I was so excited for it too. They also make it for PS 3 and X-box I think, but I only have a Wii.
Cooooooooool. I only have a Wii and older PS/Xbox. Boo.
Awesome costume!
Oh I love scary movies, especially when I’m alone at home on dark stormy night – even more so than scary books!
Thank you! I love that costume. I want to wear it every year. lol
LOVE HORROR FILMS!!!
You’ve got me pretty pumped about The Diviners. Going to try to squeeze that meaty spook Fest in before Oct 31.
I’ve been intrigued by Bedbugs for a LONG while! Though, I’m not sure I’d be able to handle it. As far as Stephen King goes, I always try his books, but peter out halfway through. I wish I could feel scared by them!
I will have to read The Diviners one of these days!
Oooh, I just bought Diviners and had no idea it was going to be scary! Now I’m even more excited!
IT was one of my favorite books growing up. I read it in 5th grade and I think it scarred me for life. So amazing though.
It is SUPER creepy. The setting is the Bee Knees, chic. I think you will just LOVE it!
