Book Blogger Confess Book Blogger Confessions: Blogger Envy

Tiger from Tiger’s All Consuming Books and Karen from For What It’s Worth have introduced a meme called “Book Blogger Confessions.”On the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month, they will be discussing a topic that affects book bloggers and give us a chance to vent, share our opinion or offer a solution. Pam from Midnyte Reader has taken over for Tiger while she pursues international aspirations. icon smile Book Blogger Confessions: Blogger Envy

Blogger Envy: Do you have a bad case of blogger envy? Do you covet thy neighbor bloggers book hauls/follower numbers/blog design? How do you tamp down the green eyed monster?

I definitely wish I had some of the ideas other bloggers have! I suck in the idea arena and I’m always over the top impressed with the blog events, discussion posts and features I see in the community. The imagination, creativity and critical thinking is totally admirable and impressive.  I obviously wish I could come up with some of it, but we all have our strengths, right? Wait…what’s mine? :Þ
As far as envy goes, I don’t really feel that. I feel supremely impressed and sometimes wish I could be in their shoes at a convention or when they get a coveted ARC or something, but I don’t feel envy or jealousy much because they are wasteful, useless emotions. I continue to learn from these people, however, which is way more important to me. ♥

    1. I hear you with good ideas and you are right that its a wasteful emotion . Hugs

    2. Felicia says:

I hear you! I always am “envious” of the creativity I see but not in a way that is negative. I am never going to be that creative–it is just not in my wheel house LOL :)

      • Yea, I feel I’m only creative with scrapbooking, and that takes effort, too. Writing and I aren’t the best of friends. I constantly battle with words, even though I might have some great thoughts. I think my issues with my writing might be a part of the bigger problem.

    3. Jo says:

I totally agree with what you said — and well said! I admit I sometimes get a little envious, but it’s something that I then try to turn around and make me inspired, instead.

    4. Karen says:

I’m flabbergasted by your answer!! I think of YOU as the blog with great ideas and creativity lol

Your blog is SO YOU and you always have a unique spin on things and share the love with other bloggers.

I really don’t see what there is to be envious of. Whatever it is – ideas, books, etc. I think bloggers are always willing to share that with you if you’re open to it.

      • I’m really thankful for that compliment. I do not feel I have great ideas, but maybe I’ve had a few. :) I definitely try to keep the blog in line with my personality, as I’m a firm believe that personality is a huge draw to blogs, in general.

        And sharing is caring! ♥

    5. “I continue to learn from these people, however, which is way more important to me.” This is what helps me squash that envy monster. Every now and then it will rear it’s ugly head, but then I just think about what I can do to make my blog better.

      Great answers, Smash!

    6. I don’t think you have anything to be envious of. And I think you have amazing ideas and I’ve learned so much from you. I think that “supremely impressed” is a great term as opposed to jealousy.

    7. Ugh ideas are HARD! And it worries me that if I do think of something, that someone has already had the idea and will be mad at me for ‘stealing it’. Thank god there are lots of people with great ideas that we can join in with!

You’re right, being envious isn’t a productive emotion – and it takes so much effort to do it!

    8. Very nicely put! That little pang hits every once in a while but then I look at my blog and book stack and it goes away pretty darned quickly.

    9. I feel very envious of some blogs and the creativity bloggers put into it … BUT then I think about how much WORK it would take and I’d rather put more of my energy into reading and communicating with the bloggers I like. I think it would be too stressful!

I think my blog is me enough and I’m happy with it! I like your blog, too and think it’s very unique!

    10. [...] talks about Blogger Envy. Do you have it? I know I feel envious sometimes, but I think I’m happy with my blog as it [...]
