BLOGGIESTA WAS A HUGE SUCCESS FOR ME!
In the life of Smash
So, I got called for the 2nd interview on Monday! The interview was Wednesday afternoon and I felt so good leaving there! I had a great conversation with the executive director. She said she likes what she heard, so that is good! They have other interviews, of course, and hope to have a decision made mid-late October. Everything moves so slow in non-profits. I’m ok with this though because it gives me more times to study for my exam on 10/30!

On Tuesday evening, I had the most amazing opportunity to see an early screening of Perks of Being a Wallflower. It’s hard to put into words the emotions I felt. It will affect you deeply, especially if you’ve read the book. You will laugh, cry and feel so much hope, love and connection to people and life that you will leave feeling like you want to hug a tree or that homeless guy on the corner. The casting was the most brilliant, ever. I cannot put into words how perfect Logan, Emma and Ezra were for their roles. Ezra will surely surprises you. WHAT talent. I want to be his friend. Logan might be a new favorite of mine. I adored him prior to this movie and just knew he would nail it. He nailed that shit to the WALL, people. The soundtrack was also incredibly poignant and I will be buying it.

Afterwards, Stephen Chbosky was actually present for a Q& A. I was really, truly impressed by this man. He explained why certain scenes were removed, saying they added too much emotional bulk and he wanted the end result leave us in a cathartic state, as it’s intended. He also stressed that reading a book, especially this one, is a very private, personal experience, and he wanted the movie to be communal, connecting people to their neighbors and make us realize that other people “get it” and that we aren’t alone.
See the movie, and read the book (first!) if you haven’t. It is a must for ANY human who has ever experienced hardship, at any point in their life. While you might not be able to connect directly to Charlie’s experience, you can connect to his journey. It’s for anyone who has ever felt like they don’t belong, are on the outside, need to find connection with others, WANT to find it. And that’s pretty much all of us.

While at the Perks screening, I discovered the ABOVE flyer, and just about screamed like a tween girl at a Bieber concert. I WILL GO AND LIVE THROUGH THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. Even though I’m out of shape. I think I will remember how to run fast when a meatskin is coming my way! WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!
T and I went out to dinner with Mandee (Books & Bling) and her hubbie, David on Saturday night. MEXICAN! I haven’t had good Mexican food since I moved here. Mandee & David love the restaurant Across the Street, and luckily, we did a Groupon!
I was plagued by headaches most of the week as I try very unsuccessfully to detox from coffee. I did cut out soda, so that’s something, right?
Oh. I found the history of my hair. WOW. I miss my short hair!

How cool is that? You got to see an early screening and do a Q & A with the author? Jealous! I’m looking forward to this movie.
I hope you love it. It was a beautiful film with superb acting!
Wow. No acquired books? I am IMPRESSED. I possess no such restraint, unfortunately.
Yay for Bloggiesta being a success!
I don’t feel like I was online a lot, and didn’t go out many place to physically buy….so yea. I’m PROUD. *beams*
You are an inspiration. I must refrain from buying more books. My wallet is crying! CRYING!
This is the first week all year. Well, maybe not, but there’s only been a few. lol
Zombie Apocalypse? VERY COOL! I’m also happy you loved Perks … I hope I like the movie! That’s awesome that the author was there! I’m sure he won’t be in my city.
Taking on the Dead looks AWESOME!!! It’s already on my wishlist!
I cannot wait for the apocalypse. LOL. I really hope you like Perks, either book or movie. Hopefully both, but beggars can’t be choosers. lol
Taking on the Dead IS awesome! I love zombie books like this. Full of character-driven awesome.
GOOD LUCK WITH THE JOB ASH! *fingers crossed for you* And I really need to join these Bloggiestas when they happen, everyone is so productive and I need to be productive with the blog. I’m so far behind with updating my review list and adding reviews to Goodreads and Amazon. Fail:)
Thank you!!! Bloggiesta is SUPER fun and I always learn so very much.
Yea on the 2nd interview. Glad they recognized you are made of AWeSOMe. *giggles & blushes at your GR shelves*
Very cool to go to the Q&A about Wallflower. Great points on the differences between the book & the movie. I should get it read this week.
I’m going to be turning in my read-along homework late. But I will catch up. One of those weeks.
I thank you SO much for the great GR shelve ideas. ♥
I hope you enjoy Perks. Amanda is not and it makes me SO SAD.
*immediately bookmarks The Itty Bitty Kitty Committee*
Ruby, that blog is one of my all-time favorite blogs evar. I’ve been reading to for years. ADORE! I want to be that family. lol
Best best best best of luck with the job – and the exam! You’re a busy bunny!
Taking on the Dead is great, I’m really liking it a lot and I’m looking forward to your review of Pretty When She Kills – I loved it!
YAYYYY for getting a 2nd interview! That’s awesome.
I haven’t read The Perks of Being a Wallflower in years, so I should re-read it before I see the movie. It looks good!
Oh you have so much stuff in your weekly rewind I need to come back and peruse. My friend is a zombie in a zombie run in Salem.
I can’t wait to see Perks, but I have no time to read it!
Hugging kitties! ♥ I can’t wait to see Perks. Do you think it’s appropriate for a 14 yo? Anything objectionable?
Yes, fine for 14 y/o IMO. What you and I find objectionable could be highly different though! Drug use at parties is all I can think of… If you want to spoil yourself to see if you agree, you can find the parent’s guide here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1659337/parentalguide#certification
Absolutely stellar news on the job front!! I’m so glad they called you back. Even if nothing comes of it, YOU GOT CALLED BACK and had more interview experience. And now you can relax and study (blech!)
I’m so jealous you got so much “shit” done this weekend!! That’s so great *grumbles*. I kept getting sidetracked (like I am now) and the mini-challenges were so good, I’m getting nothing else done! I am so entirely grateful for all you guys for doing the great minis!!! Thank YOU!!
Gotta run and get more shit done!! :Þ
(I got the trademark symbol on my first try and I’m slightly insulted by the keypad comment – rotfl!!!)
Hey listen. I do not know who has good computer experience and who doesn’t I am not going to assume someone knows what I mean by a term like keypad. They could think it was the numbers! lol >:Þ
Keep on keeping on! And thank you!
