Hi everyone! I’m starting a 4-part series (and even longer, should we discover a topic for me to research and share) regarding bookish tools and things. I would really love it if you would chime in and tell me what is missing from the list. I will then add it to the list so we can have a comprehensive list to reference into infinity!

Communities + Cataloging + Recommendations

Those 3 categories were just too difficult to break up since many of these sites fall into all 3…so deal. icon wink Bookish Tools & Things: Part 1 – The Websites

  • Goodreads: A very popular site to sort your collections, share reviews, make recommendations, join groups, make lists, collect quotes, and a plethora of other bookish fun. I think my favorite aspects are the lists and quotes!
  • LibraryThing: Very different from Goodreads. I am not a big a fan of the organization, but I’ve won way more ARCs via their Early Reviewers program than I ever did on GR. And the more you review the books you win, the better chances you have of winning in the future. WIN!
  • Shelfari: I went on this site years ago, but I’m pretty unfamiliar with it now. I’m sure it has great features!
  • The Reading Room: Connect. Share. Recommend.
  • Shelf Awareness: They produce a literary newsletter full of all kinds of interesting stuff.
  • Figment: Mainly for writers! Lots of awesome author interviews, too!
  • What Should I Read Next? Give this a shot!
  • Gnooks: Really cool recommendation site. Check out this literature map!
  • Whichbook: I think the idea of this site is frakin cool but not sure they have the best source of titles to choose from…
  • The Staff Recommends: I’m not exactly sure who the staff are, but they most know books!
  • Book Browse: I’m interested to hear about this website’s effectiveness and entertainment value. They do have a fun “What’s your reading personality?” quiz. Apparently I fit into 3 reading categories: Involved. Serial. Eclectic. I’ll take it.
  • BookJetty: Another cataloging site
  • BookGlutton: Community site with an awesome name
  • Book Buzzes: Buzz about books?
  • Wow Library: Apparently it alerts you to new content at your local library?
  • Any New Books?
  • Book Yap

I’d love for you to chime in with anything I missed!

  • Part 1: Websites (communities/recommendation, supporting your habit, bookish merchandise, recycling, other)
  • Part 2: Organizations (major publishers and their spin-off sites, literary orgs)
  • Part 3: Apps
  • Part 4: Conventions (U.S.)
