Book Blogger Confess Book Blogger Confessions: Following

Tiger from Tiger’s All Consuming Books and Karen from For What It’s Worth have introduced a meme called “Book Blogger Confessions.”On the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month, they will be discussing a topic that affects book bloggers and give us a chance to vent, share our opinion or offer a solution. Pam from Midnyte Reader has taken over for Tiger while she pursues international aspirations. icon smile Book Blogger Confessions: Following

Following:  How do you follow blogs?  Do you use Google Reader?  Are you on an e-mail list?

Definitely RSS Feed. And yes, Google Reader. I actually love the Feed Demon program, but it’s freezes all the time, so I give up. Boo. I would really hate receiving all my feeds via email. I would die of a heart attack if I opened up my mail and saw 150+ posts to read every day. EEEEEEP.

Are you more apt to follow people who have less followers?

I don’t pay one bit of attention to followers anymore. I used too, but I honestly could not care less now. I remember when I had less than 50 followers, and honestly, who knows my number now because I don’t have GFC anymore. However, at the end of the day, I don’t care about my follower count, and therefore, don’t care about anyone else’s. If you are entertaining, thoughtful, honest, fun, conversational, a million other things…then YAY! You are worth a follow. icon smile Book Blogger Confessions: Following

Would you follow a blog to enter a contest?

I used to but haven’t done it in a loooooong time. It was a newbie thing, for me. I certainly don’t enter contests anywhere near as much as used to and I doubt I’d follow a blog unless it was a major prize.

What makes you unfollow a blog?

Bad attitude. Nothing but giveaways. Holier than thou personality. But honestly, I would not follow those people to begin with, methinks. So, maybe I just fall out of touch with blogger or interests change or something…?

    1. I agree — I wouldn’t let follower count determine whether I followed or not. Though if I see a blogger is just starting out, I try to link them up, or offer an ARC I’m done with. I got help like that when I was starting out and I really appreciated it.

I just follow because I enjoy the blog — love their take on things and want to know what they think.

    2. I get a kick out of seeing my follower count rise. I can’t help it! (Not that I have a lot.) However, I have no clue about my other stats. I guess b/c the Follower widget is right on the page. Totally agree about who is worth a follow. I’ll give a follow if I like the blog, but not *just* b/c a blog “needs” it. I haven’t entered a contest in a long time either. I think I have enough books!

I try to follow newer bloggers but I wouldn’t based not he follower number alone. They would have to still have content worth following for….so I guess I just kind of contradicted my own answer lol

I’m with you – it’s all about personality! It must shone through or it’s just another blog.

    4. Oh I just had this horrible flash of what my inbox would look like if I email subscribed to all the blogs I like. *phew* luckily that was just a nightmare!

I rarely pay attention to how many people follow a blog before deciding whether I’ll follow or not – if it’s a fun blog with great personality, I’ll follow straight away. But yes, there’s a few pompous people I’ve unfollowed because of that horrible condescending vibe they give off….

    5. I agree on all points. Particularly the last bit. :D

    6. I always HATED getting my feeds via email! I like Google Reader because I can go to the blog and comment easily. It kind of forces me to use the laptop. I think if I used my iPod, I would do a lot less commenting.

And SUCH good reasons to follow someone — I don’t follow anyone because of how many followers they have, either. I want good, quality posts! And I like connecting with people!

I used to follow a lot of blogs as a newbie, too! That led to a MAJOR purge!

      Great answers, Ash!
