The Decatur Book Festival takes place in Decatur, GA during Labor Day Weekend. I am SO frakkin excited to be a hop, skip and a jump from Decatur so it won’t be a big expense for me. This will be the 3rd major bookish-event I’ve attended. {I went to the RWA multi-author book signing event in Orlando in 2008 before my dreams of book blogging even came to be. I also went to Miami International Book Festival, where I met Andrew Smith!!}

The AJC Decatur Book Festival is the largest independent book festival in the country––but that’s not all we do! The organization behind the festival promotes a year-round literary community by hosting a series of fundraising and literary events. All year long, the organization behind the festival promotes literacy and an interest in books in and around the Atlanta area. In the Festival’s off season, we host a series of fundraising and literary events, bringing names such as Salman Rushdie, John Lewis, Alice Walker, Roy Blount Jr., and Paula Deen to Decatur for readings and signings.

So awesome. I might get involved in some way, too. Some of the Not So YA Book Club people are pretty entrenched in the book scene locally and I am so glad to know them now. They are sure to bring forth great experiences for me in some way or another. In fact, they hold an author/blogger breakfast each morning so we can sit and chat! WIN!

I looked through the author list to see who would be attending:

  • Erin Morgenstern, author of The Night Circus: EPIC book! Amazed over and over at her writing style and imagination. ♥
  • Kendare Blake, author of Anna Dressed in Blood series. Say what? I almost spit out my coffee.
  • Heather Brewer, author of Vladimir Tod series.  I have book one but still have not read it…
  • Meg Cabot, author of way too much to name. LOL. I’ve met her once and it was wicked enjoyable. I’ve only read her Abandon series, but I’ve enjoyed it greatly.
  • Barry Lyga, author of the Jasper Dent series. So much win!
  • Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl, authors of the Caster Chronicles series. I have all 3 books and got 60% through Beautiful Creatures before putting it down and never returning. I will read them!
  • Maureen Johnson, author of The Name of the Star, of which I have not read.
  • David Levithan, author of many books. The only one I’ve read is Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and I just adored it. I have Will Grayson, Will GraysonThe Lover’s Dictionary and Every Day are on my wishlist.
  • Jackson Pearce, author of the Fairytale Retelling series (Sister’s Red, Sweetly, Fathomless). I have Sister’s Red but have not read it.
Of this huge list of authors, these are the only ones I recognized, so I hope to walk away from the event with new authors to investigate. Of course, there are all the glorious panels. You never make it to all the panels you want to, but it’s annoyingly fun trying to sort through the chaos at these events. heh. I’d like to attend:
  • Saturday
    • 10:00-10:45- Running the Rift featuring Naomi Benaron
    • 11:00-11:45- New Outcasts featuring Carley Moore, Madeleine George and Kristen-Paige Madonia (Teen Stage)
    • Kendall Grey will be signing at the Emerging Author Stage 12:05 to 12:15!!!!!!! And I hope to sneak attack J.L. Bryan at some point too…SO EXCITED! I need to profess my adoration. ♥
    • 12:00-12:45- Every Day featuring David Levithan (Teen Stage)
    • 3:00-3:45- Girl of Nightmares featuring Kendare Blake (Teen Stage)
    • 4:15-5:00- The Night Circus featuring Erin Morgenstern (First Baptist Decatur Sanctuary Stage)
  • Sunday
    • 1:00-1:45- I Hunt Killers featuring Barry Lyga (Teen Stage)
    • 2:00-2:45- The Name of the Star featuring Maureen Johnson (Teen Stage)
    • 3:45-4:30- Flights of Fantasy featuring Jana Oliver and Robin Hobb (Courtyard By Marriott Ballroom B)
    • 5:00-5:45- Warrior Grrrrrrrls featuring Jessica Khoury, C.J. Redwine, Heather Brewer, Sarah Maas and Dan Krokos - YES! Love me some fierce grrrrrrrrrrrrls!
The Book Market and Street Fair is where the awesome book fan-girling occurs. I LOVE book street fairs! Booths I want to visit:

I am ready for fun, mayhem, lots of frakkin people, sore feet, a sweaty body and LOTS OF LITERARY AWESOME!
