Warriors of the Rift
Once a generation, the rift between the paranormal world and the human world opens, allowing supernatural entities to cross. Vampire, demon, or shapeshifter, they can save the world-or send it spiraling into chaos.
Half-demon, half-human, Nix de la Fuente is accepted by neither and mistrusted by both. Determined to prove she's more human than not, she devotes herself to solving crimes between the world's mortals and its most unsavory undead. But her latest case brings her face to face with the one vampire she could never resist . . .
Called in to investigate a string of violent murders, special agent Tobias Caine isn't interested in rekindling his relationship with Nix. Yet one look and the vampire knows his need for her is as strong as ever. Once, their all-consuming passion nearly cost Nix her fragile hold on her humanity. Now, as their hunger for one another intensifies, exposing them to an unimaginable danger, it could cost them both their lives.
Kiss of the Vampire was a great beginning to the Warriors of the Rift series by Cynthia Garner. In a genre full of vampires, Fae, werewolves, demons and shapeshifters Ms. Garner has managed to do something fresh, exciting and different. Warriors of the Rift is PNR with a little sci-fi thrown in.
In the Warriors of the Rift world, creatures are actually beings from another dimension who were cast out and are now possessing people on Earth. How frakkin cool is that? The type of supernatural being one becomes is based on the person’s DNA that they inhabit. Kiss of the Vampire was new and different and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Once a generation, the rift between the paranormal world and the human world opens, allowing supernatural entities to cross. Vampire, demon, or shapeshifter, they can save the world-or send it spiraling into chaos.
Nix de la Fuente is half-demon, half-human and has been ostracized her whole life. Demons are the lowest form of supernatural creature and Nix, being a half-breed, has to fight twice as hard for half the recognition. She’s a hard worker and very good at her job but she’s still ridiculed and made to feel like dirt. I won’t get into it because it will spoil things for you, but Nix has had a VERY hard life. The only good thing Nix has ever had is Tobias, but he left her with no explanation. She has spent the past few years trying to put him behind her.
Tobias Caine is a vampire and the only one of his kind who chose to go through The Rift. Tobias came into town to help an old friend. Last thing he expected was to walk into Nix’s crime scene and find his friend dead. He has no intention of trying to rebuild a relationship with Nix, and from the hostility he senses coming off her in waves, the feeling is mutual.
Watching Nix and Tobias struggle with their relationship as they were forced to work together was highly enjoyable for me. She was snarky and fun and he was overwhelmingly sexy. There was lots of action, some smexy time and several secondary characters I can’t wait to read more about. The world-building was highly imaginative and has a lot of potential for development.
Kiss of the Vampire was new and different and I really liked it. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in a little sci-fi thrown in with their steamy paranormal romance. I was so excited over this book that it has pained me waiting for the release of the second book in the series, Secret of the Wolf. I give Cynthia Garner’s outstandingly original debut, Kiss of the Vampire, 4.5 stars.

OH this does sound neat and original from another dimension! I love the premise and the characters too are right up my alley with the snark! >.< Grat review!
It’s a very interesting concept and so different than anything else I’ve read. The second book in the series, Secret of the Wolf, was released last month and was really good as well. Hope you enjoy Kiss of the Vampire as much as I did.
Great review. The sci-fi additions sounds like a nice twist on our beloved genre. I like the sound of tension between them as they have to work together. Nothing can get the old blood pumping, like a murder. It’s going on my sounds-good list.
I love the sci-fi elements in this series. It’s unique as the E.D.s are basically squatting inside the humans. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series. Hope you like it!
